Spring is a very busy time in second grade. We are finishing up our 3rd 9 weeks in about 2 weeks. It's hard to believe that the year is almost finished. Term 3 has the most standards that we cover and some of the most difficult. I will begin testing math facts next Wednesday. They are very tricky this term, but we are working on them in class each day. I know lots of children can become frustrated with them quite easily. I recommend 5 minutes daily to avoid frustration. We are also going to begin studying shapes and angles in math. The students really enjoy this each year.
We are continuing to work on persuasive writing. I know many of you have received letters from your child asking for various things. They are really working hard on these and I am so impressed with their growth in writing.
We are continuing to investigate food here at our school. The students are planting spinach today with Ms. Carmen. We will harvest this spinach and use it for our annual smoothie sale in May. I have seen an increase in the vegetables being consumed here at school and I hope you are seeing the same at home.
As spring approaches, please contact me with any questions you may have about your child's progress or thoughts on things to do over the summer to stay prepared for 3rd grade. I hope you have a wonderful week!
