We have completed another great week in 2nd grade. The kids are doing really well and we are learning a lot. This week, we have talked about the water cycle and are charting 2 different jars of water to see which one will evaporate the fastest. We are also working on text features (table of contents, glossary, headings, and the index) in informational books, as well as continuing with place value in math. I will be starting reading groups next week. Please look for a note coming home next week that will explain my procedures for reading at home. I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend and enjoys the last few days of summer!
I hope to see everyone tonight for our 1st Discover Brookwood night. The second grade teachers will do a presentation on ways to help your child be successful at school, as well as a look at our STEM research project on nurtrition. While you are here, stop by to see our latest experiment. The students took leaves and broke them into tiny pieces. We then poured fingernail polish remover over them and attached a coffee filter. The remover will pull out the natural color of our leaves. We made predictions on the color of our leaves and today we will see if we were right!! See you tonight!
We are finishing our first full week of school. We have had an awesome week!
This week, we dove right into writing. I am so impressed with the stories the kids have been producing. In math, we are talking about skip counting over 100. Next week, we will really focus our attention on place value. For science, we all adopted a tree in the courtyard. Each student will monitor his/her tree throughout the seasons and note any changes. We have also learned all of the resources trees provide and why it is important to protect them. I hope to see you next Thursday night at our Discover Brookwood night. The second grade teachers will do a presentation on what to expect in second grade. Have a great weekend!!! We are off to a great start in second grade! I am so
impressed with this group of children. We are working hard and learning a lot! I know this is going to be a wonderful year here at Brookwood School!!! |
