We are quickly moving through January and Term 3. Unfortunately, Mrs. Childer's is not with us this semester, but will be returning in the fall. She has been by to visit and the kids were eager to see her. She said she wants them all to come by next fall and visit with her. I know we miss her and the wonderful help she offered to the students. In social studies, we are learning about Georgia's famous people. The students have been very eager learners and soaked in a lot of information. It is fascinating to see how they react to people from the past. I keep telling them that one day, people will look back on us and think our ways of life were strange. It has been a good time to work on my favorite lesson that we can learn from mistakes made in the past and chose not to repeat them. It also makes us all appreciate where we are now. History is full of great lessons!!!
In science, we are learning about pushes and pulls. We had a great time bowling. The kids were a little disappointed that we didn't get to walk to the bowling alley, but were thankful for the busses. When we returned, they made lots of connections about how they tried heavier bowling balls, but had to use more force so they found lighter ones. They also noticed the ramps and how they made things easier for some students. When we returned, as a grade level, we created a line plot to show our bowling scores. This has been a great way to make a tricky graph more applicable to the students. It should be finished by the end of this week and is one display outside of our classroom. Thanks to the moms that chaperoned!
Next week we will continue with force and motion. We are also thinking about beginning persuasive writing. You might want to help your child think about something he/she is interested in and could make a good argument for or against. Have a great week!
