We had a great time at the Morris Innovative High School's Health Fair last Friday. The kids got to follow their food through the digestive track. It was very informative. They also got to see a fire truck, learn about karate, and play games. We are finishing up measurement in math and will be moving into telling time by the end of the week. Please let your child help you tell time at home. In reading, we are focusing on the main idea of a story. You can help at home by asking your child to talk about the main idea of books you are reading. In writing, they have just finished publishing their informational books. They will be in the hallway soon! We are now staring "How To" books. In Social Studies, we are learning about Georgia's Native Americans, specifically the Cherokee because they lived right here in this area. There are many wonderful places to visit in this area if you are looking for something to do next week. The Chief Vann House, New Echota, and Red Clay are all within 30 minutes of Dalton and make great activities. I will be testing math facts the second week in December so keep practicing! I hope all of you have a very wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy this time with your children!
Yesterday, we had a great time cooking with our new mobile kitchen. The students had the opportunity to bake cauliflower seasoned with their choice of seasonings. The results were fun, but very spicy!!! They have asked that I post the recipe so that you can make it at home. We mixed about 1/4 cup of olive oil with chili powder, cumin, salt, and red pepper flakes. You can use any seasonings that you like! Then you bake at 350 for 30 minutes. We talked about how we were making the cauliflower taste better, but not adding a ton of calories.
In addition, we are doing well with the Spelling City site. I am purchasing a permanent membership and in the process, the trial period is no longer working. It should be available by tomorrow. Please bare with us as we are trying to work out the best system for spelling instruction this year. Thank you so much to all of the parents who helped us with our Fall Party on Friday. The kids had a great time! So sorry that we had to run out! Friday afternoons are very busy for us! It was a great day! We are getting very excited about our cauliflower. We are going out several times a week to measure its height. This has been wonderful timing since we are studying measurement in math. Today we sampled cauliflower tots which were really more like a casserole. Cauliflower contains a TON of water and keeps it from forming a solid shape. You learn something new every day!!! It was delicious anyway!!! Our mobile kitchen will be here on Wednesday and the kids will be able to cook in our room. Our monthly newsletter went home today so feel free to contact me with any questions. Have a great fall!!!
